 CSUN participates in the NCAA Men's basketball tournament, leaving SJSU behind.

Utah State & Cal Poly Pomona
SAN JOSE, CA - (March 28, 2009) -- Once again this year, San Jose State's NCAA men's basketball performance is being outshined by younger California State University campuses and state-oriented Western Athletic Conference rivals like Utah State.
While the San Jose State men's hoops season ended predictably early, CSU Northridge and Utah State both made it to the NCAA tournament again this year, and Cal Poly Pomona made it to the NCAA Division II finals.
CSU students and alumni groups like the CSU Alumni of Silicon Valley and the Students for CSU | San Jose State have been working for years to restore San Jose State's piece of the California State University (CSU) identity. They believe that a big part of the reason for SJSU's perpetual lack of athletic/academic notoriety is it's provincial and overly localized city-college identity. But to date students and grads at the original Cal State campus are still not permitted to harness the power of the identity of the CSU identity. Discuss in Forums.

CSU Activists at San Jose State
Utilize Social Networking Site
San Jose, CA (Feb. 19, 2009) - Two CSU-oriented content areas have recently appeared on Facebook, and are gaining members. The largest is a Facebook "page" called "California State University, San Jose" which has garned close to 1,000 members.
San Jose State's official CSU student group, the Students for CSU | San Jose State have also appeared on the popular social networking site.
The Students for CSU | San Jose State urges students and alumni to join and suport these groups, and create more CSU-oriented social networks and groups at San Jose State.

As the 2008 NCAA college football season nears an ends, the best state universities are basking in national bowl game glory. But the California State University (CSU) remains an institution without a strong campus-based identity to promote the CSU name, via athletics or academics.
The CSU's city-state identity football schools -- San Jose State, Fresno State and San Diego State -- all had predictibly medicore seasons, with Fresno State being beaten by Colorado State University in a bowl game. The remaining CSU campuses are either too small or city-oriented to bring much national recognition to the CSU.
