Welcome to Gostate.org

This is the archive of older Gostate.org webpages. GoState is the voice of the movement for a balanced state-city identity at "San Jose State", which was founded as the California State Normal School (1862-1921) and is the school from which the entire CSU system grew.

About GoState.org

Gostate.org is a website for San Jose students, alumni, professors and other Californians who advocate restoration of a balanced state-city identity and image for the oldest California State University (1862) campus (presently know as "San Jose State"). We believe San Jose students, alumni and professors should have the right to identify and market themselves under the superior CSU brand name if they wish. To secure these rights we believe the school must a least partially restore its original "California State" identity (while maintaining a strong "San Jose" identity).

We also believe the school should heavily promote and market its status as the oldest and original public institution of higher learning in California, rather than attempt to hide and obfuscate this fact as is currently done by the promoters of the San Jose-only "SJSU" identity.

We believe CSU restoration will make San Jose a more prestigious and well-known school, increase the value of the degrees it grants, and make it easier for its graduates to find jobs in competitive job markets in the Bay Area and elsewhere around the world. CSU restoration will also broaden the base of support and recognition for the school and its Spartan athletics programs, making it possible for the school and its athletic programs to attract more CSU-wide and statewide interest and support. This will, in turn, also benefit the school's graduates, as the school becomes better known and respected.

GoState.org's Mission

Gostate.org's mission is 1) to safeguard, protect and commemorate the history and identity of the original California State [Normal School and University] in San Jose, California; 2) to promote recognition of this identity by students, alumni, the University, the State of California and the people of California; 3) to protect and support the 111-year tradition of Spartan football as an important California State institution.

With the university's endowment and fundraising well below that of its equivalent schools like Oregon State University and Washington State University, and the 111-year-old tradition of Spartan football in jeopardy of becoming nothing more than a wistful memory, we believe it is time for the University to remember its glorious past as California State, 1862-1921, 1972-1974, the founding institution of what was later to become the California State University system. By doing so we believe San Jose's CSU campus can finally assume its rightful place as the flagship campus and football program of the entire CSU system, and one of the great State of California's namesake institutions.

CSU & You

If you are a Spartan student, recent grad, professor or staff member, your degree or experience at San Jose will be more marketable if the University develops a more nationally recognizable identity.
