California vs. California State Basketball

One of the oldest rivalries in California intercollegiate athletics was renewed on Wednesday Nov. 30 when Berkeley's California Bears hosted the oldest California State University (CSU) campus' Spartan basketball squad. Although the Spartans fell to the Bears 70-52, the Spartans are still off to their best season in years. Powered by a new coach and a new look and image, the CSU's oldest basketball program has defeated Portland State, Cal Poly and the University of San Diego. The CSU Spartans supports recognition of San Jose's identity as the original California State (1862) insitution of higher learning, and support making the Bears one of the Spartans principal rivals in intercollegiate sports. CSU Campus Villlage

In the latest post on the CSU Spartans blog, the CSU Spartans call for recognition of the role of the State of California, and more particularly the California State University Board of Trustees in planning, approving, funding and building the new Campus Village at the the oldest CSU campus in San Jose, California.

Many students and alumni believe in is time for the oldest CSU campus in San Jose to start to align itself more strongly with the State of California and reintegrate itself with the CSU system. Recognizing the State of California's contributions to the CSU campus in San Jose is a good place to start, but activisits also plan to press for some kind of formal recognition of the State of California/CSU Trustee's role in developing the impressive Campus Village.
